Those that know me, know that my kryptonite is a good burger. Becoming a vegetarian meant…Bye, bye Burgers. I have tried the supermarket burgers like Boca burgers, and morning star burgers, among many others. However, cutting onions and garlic out of my diet has made grabbing a burger a lot harder. Almost every company that makes a vegetarian burger utilizes onions and garlic for flavor. Scouring the web, I decided to make my bean burger.
Ingredients:
- 1 can of black beans
- 1 can chickpeas
- 1 tbsp bread crumbs
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp olive oil
All of the ingredients, except the olive oil, were placed in a nutribullet and blended. The ingredients can easily be mashed with a fork, but for reasons of time, I blended them. After which I molded the bean burger. I didn’t use salt, because canned beans typically have salt already added. I would recommend trying the mix before cooking, just to make sure that there is enough flavor. I have seen many burgers using BBQ sauce. I didn’t want to add any sauces because it would make the patty watery and harder to cook. There are two options when cooking the bean burger. You can set the oven to 350F and cook for 3-5 minutes on each side, and serve it on a bun with Avocado, spring mix, and cheese. Or you can pan seer it. I went with the pan seer method. I heated the pan with oil and then added the burger over medium heat. Then flipped the burger after 3-5 minutes. This will create a nice crispy exterior while making the center nice and warm. After warming up the bun, cheese was added then the patty with some avocado and spring mix.
